After many years of working with Delta Millworks as a supplier of architectural woodwork, we were thrilled at the opportunity to design new millworks buildings for them in Wimberley, Texas.  Delta’s current shop is in a beloved historic industrial building on East 5th Street in central Austin and the company is outgrowing it. The owners worked to find a site outside of central Austin that would accommodate their current manufacturing needs and future growth. The 85,000 square foot complex will accommodate their entire manufacturing process, provide space for a customer showroom, the sales team, storage and room for expansion. The design of the new building captures some of the character of Delta’s original mill, with an iconic sawtooth roof section. This shape provides clerestory windows for a daylit work environment that will help maintain high levels of productivity and reduce energy use. This aligns with Delta’s ethos of sustainability.  Other sustainable features of the project include: preservation of a large section of blackland prairie at the front of the property, planning outdoor areas and trails for workers, using dark skies lighting, rainwater harvesting and designing the building to be solar ready.
